The National Matchplay Qualifying Rounds which are being played this week have served up some top class pitch and putt.
Martin O'Neill has continued his fine early season form and has made it to the last four, he defeated Mervyn Cooney 7&6 on Tuesday night, and tonight beat the up and coming youngster Alan Franklin by 5&4 in a birdie blitzed semi-final.
In the final he will meet Club Captain Shane Redmond, Shane defeated Liam Sheridan on Tuesday and saw off the tenacious John Freeman by 5&4 this evening, Shane has not produced his usual high standard of play so far this season, but surely the prospect of playing the inform Martin O'Neill for a place in the last 64 should bring out the best in him.

In the other half of the draw Jim Foley defeated newcomer Ger Doyle on Tuesday, and tonight he defeated Kieron Morrissey in an exciting match which went down to the last hole. Jim showed no ill effects from taking a year out from the game in 2007, and played some fantastic pitch and putt, to see off the consistent Kieron Morrissey. Kieron failed to produce his usual excellent putting stats. and went down by 2 holes. Foley will meet Michael O'Neill in Thursday's final, and while O'Neill is playing very well at present it i hard to look past Foley making it to the last 64.

WORLD INTERCLUB LEAGUE FINAL ROUND RESULTS.

Irish club St Patricks has won the third World Interclub League Championship, winning all five matches they played and setting the competition alight with a blaze of records in a stunning debut season.
But when they came to setting records the Irish club did not have it all to themselves with new entrant P&P Kardinge from Holland also adapting quickly to the competition and finishing a strong 2nd with Catalan club Sant Cebria a close third.

In the Championship division, so hot was the competition this year that seven of the lowest ten team scores ever were set this year. St Patricks lowered the world record to an amazing 179 when they defeated Sant Cebria in Round 2, and they now own the lowest three team scores with P&P Kardinge grabbing two of the next three lowest scores.

St Patricks player, John O'Rourke, set a world record for an individual in this competition with a 43 back in September, but four other players came in with 44's to see seven new entries in the top ten all time individual scores list.
Not to be outdone, Dutch pair Jenno Wolters and Niels Tiggelaar smashed the world record for pairs in September with an astonishing 40, three strokes lower than the previous record.

Three new World records for this competition were set in 2007, and a total of 15 new national marks were set for competition in WIL.

Final placings in the Champions Division were...
1st - St Patricks (Ireland), 2nd - P&P Kardinge (Holland), 3rd - Sant Cebria (Catalonia), 4th - Canberra International (Australia), 5th - Corinda ( Australia), 6th - Southern Cross (Australia).

The World Interclub League "Team of the Year", which honours the best players in the Championship division has been named.
John O'Rourke (St Patricks) has been named Captain as the top ranked singles player for the season, and is joined by Martin O'Neill(St Pats), Keiron Morrissey (St Pats) and Karl Bergh (P&P Kardinge). The pairs players in the Team of the Year are Jenno Wolters and Niels Tiggelaar (P&P Kardinge) and Peter Spelman and Gordon Crane (Corinda). **to qualify for selection, a player must have played at least three rounds in singles, or two rounds with the same partner in pairs.
The lowest singles score in the division was a 43 by John O'Rourke of St Patricks, the lowest pairs score by Jenno Wolters and Niels Tiggelaar of P&P Kardinge.

Dean Grannell wins captains prize :
The st patricks pitch and putt club captains prize got underway on friday evening last and club chairman aidan o brien got proceedings underway on the immaculately manicured course. After round one dean grannell was the early clubhouse leader after a stunning round of 39 nett which included a hole in one a the 10th hole.he was closely followed by john o rourke who had a 41 nett and 4 other players who were still in striking distance.
lar freeman john clince tom murphy and michael o neill were all creating good oppurtunities but grannell who was in the second group out had the perfect start to round 2 a par on hole one and his second hole in one on the difficult second hole he was now 22 under through 20 holes!
he played steadily all the way and finished his round with a birdie on the last hole to be clubhouse leader on 81.
despite the best efforts of some of the best pitch and putt the south east has seen for some time the pearse road resident remained on top and had captured the 2007 captains prize on his maiden appearence in the prestigious event.
vice chairman michael(sarge)o neill finished in second place 2 shots behind with john o rourke and alan franklin taking 3rd and 4th place respectively another shot back.

British Open Winner
Local man Kieron Morrissey made a little piece of history on Sunday last22/07/07.On a wonderful sporting week end when most peoples focus was on the British Open golf championship Enniscorthy man Kieron morrisey was trying to put his own name in the history books when taking part in the amateur equivalent the British open pitch and putt championships.
The event took place on the same day as the final of the Golf championships only in this case the event took place in London instead of Scotland.
Kieron was fortunate enough to receive an invite to play in the event by Britains number one ranked player John Deeble.
In a bid to emulate his sporting hero Padraig Harrington ,Kieron started out on the unfamiliar track with a blistering pace over the first 18 holes and finished the round 5 under par amazingly only one shot off the couse record of 6 under on the "central park "London course.
He startedd out the second round sharing the lead with another british player bill leach hotly followed by Britians number one John Deeble .
Deeble was fired up and started out birdie birdie hole in one birdie to be 5 under par for 4 holes not to be outdone morrisey climbed to meet the challenge and birdied 5 out of the next 8 holes to remain one shot ahead of the London based supremo. After all scores were returned Kieron had the narrowest lead of 1 shot ,steve deeble and anthony o brien were still in the chase  , the rest of the field falling 4 or more shots back.
The day changed and the breeze stiffened to make the final round even more challenging. The field fell away with only half a dozen players making a serious run .Another british player Richard Linen was picking up deuces and astoundingly finished his last round equalling the course record and was leader in the clubhouse on 11 under par .The final pairing of Morrissey and Deeble were the only ones who could take the winners position from him.
Morrisseys chance came on 16 but his birbie opportunity hung on the lip.Deebles chance came on the difficult 18th but his putt went into the hole and lipped out, morrissey also missed his putt which left him in the runners up spot beating John deeble on a countback as they shared the same score.
Richard Linnen was the British champion but Kieron Morrisey had made history by being the only player Playing out of an Irish club to win a prize in the British Open he also picked up the award for the best international player.
At the prize giving ceremony Kieron gave special thanks to the Deeble family who had made the event possible also his sponsor David Wheelock of the Golf shop enniscorthy and looked forward to returning to play the event next year.

The Committee decided earlier this year to demolish the old Clubhouse dating back to the formation of the Club in 1968, and to replace it with a more member friendly facility.

The new building will incorporate a locker/changing room, a general assembly area for use  during competitions, this will also act as a committee room.
The Clubhouse will also include an office, which will have all up to date facilities including Internet access.
This new structure added to our existing clubhouse completed in 1994, will allow the Club to cater for the needs not only of the members, but also the many visiting Clubs and Socities who play the course during the season

The new Clubhouse is due for completion on the 5th of June, when completed it will provide members with some of the best clubhouse facilities in the Country.

The estimated cost of the clubhouse extension is approx.€30000. The Club invested €40000 last year installing an irrigation system, and  boundary fencing. This represent's a total investment of €70000 in the last 12 months.

The Clubhouse will be officially opened by Peter Carroll our Club President and longest serving member in mid June.

Kieron Morrissey was recently co-opted as a member of the NEC of the Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland. Kieron is P.R.O. of St Patrick's and a most diligent Registrar of the Carlow/Wexford/Kilkenny Regional Board.

He is well qualified to serve as a member of the N.E.C. as he is very much in tune with all that is happening in the game at present.

He is a keen competitor, and on most weekend's  will be found supporting a scratch cup or open strokeplay somewhere in the Country.

We wish him well in his new position

Ex juvenile all Ireland champion Dean Granell showed his class recently when winning the Sunday strokeplay event  at St Patricks .The victory was all the more special as this was the pearse road residents first tournament in the adult ranks.Dean proved he is going to be a force to be reckoned with and a great addition to the playing ranks of the club.
The conditions were trying on the day as the wind got up in the second half of the tournament this didnt put the winner off however as he carded a very respectable 11 under par score, one shot ahead of second place runner up Liam Sheridan.
The gross prize was won by club PRO  Kieron Morrissey.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 2007 season got underway on Sunday last the 11th March and although the conditions werent ideal the exponents of the short game were in fine form.Incoming club captain Martin o Neill got proceedings underway as he drove in to office for the coming season.Martin was also amongst the prizewinners picking up the gross award on the day.Vice captain Shane Redmond finished in second place and  keeping up his good track record from last year Alan Franklin was the winner of the first club strokeplay of 2007.

******************************************************************************************
John O'Rourke wrote himself into the history books at the Lakewood Club in Cork when he became the first Wexford player  to win an individual  All- Ireland Pitch and Putt title.
He shot a 7 under par 101to lead in the Clubhouse, this score was matched by CPM'S Aaron Cuddihy and a 9 hole play off over the back nine followed.
O'Rourke remained calm and composed and hit a 2 under par 25 for the nine holes to win by a comfortable margin, and become the first Wexford player to win the Eugene McCarthy cup.
Agreat weekend for the St.Patrick's Club winning the Inter County on Saturday and the Strokeplay on Sunday.
We send our congratulations to John and to the Wexford team.
Congratulations also to the Juvenile Officers in the Club

The team all playing out of the St.Patrick's Club shot a 12 under par total to secure first place ahead of Dublin and Down.
This is a wonderful achievement as St. Patrick's is the only Pitch and Putt Club in the County.

The team was John O'Rourke (Captain) Dean Grannell, Paul Tobin, Conor Murphy,
and Mehmet  Atavar.

Kieron Morrissey is the new holder of the GH. Lett cup, and Club Matchplay Champion of 2005, he defeated the reigning champion Martin O,Neill, who was bidding for a hat trick of titles having won in 2003 and 2004.

The final which was delayed due to unforseen circumstances, was played on greens more often seen in summer such is the condition of the course at present,
O'Neill who enjoyed a tremendous 2005 season was unable to recover from Morrissey's blistering start despite winning 6 holes in a row from the 27th through to the 32nd, a birdie from Morrissey at the 33rd hole secured a 4&3 victory and a great end to the season for the 4 handicapper.

The Trophy was presented by the champion of 20 years ago (1985) the legendary Tommy Foley.

Competition resumed on Sunday last after a break of a couple of weeks.
The bad weather of the past few weeks had left the course unplayable, but an improvement in the last week has allowed competition to resume.
The greens are in fantastic condition, the verti-draining which was carried out in early October has paid dividends.
A Club scramble will take place on Sunday next at 11 am.

The Club AGM will take place mid  December the date will be announced next week.
The Committee is hoping to go ahead with plans to install a new irrigation system, and to also erect a new perimiter fence, the anticipated cost is close to €40,000, but it is seen as essential work which will help the Club maintain its position as one of the top venues in the Country
